what is nuzlock'd
Nuzlock'd is my grimdark Pokemon AU focsed within the Sinnoh region following a young girl named Rea learning to navigate the hostile world while being Nuzlock'd.
nuzlock'd started as a typical Pokemon Pearl Nuzlocke comic of the late 2010s featuring my self insert, Rea, path of getting gym badges and becoming champion despite having the Nuzlocke Curse, which is basically world terminology to make the Nuzlocke Challenge make sense in world. from this jokey comic inspired by alot of artists of the time i looked up to, this rapidly evolved into its own world where i expanded on the idea of the Nuzlocke Curse and it's beginnings and its impact on people who had it.
this is really a cozy comfort project at the end of the day, especially this version. its cute and heartbreaking and i project alot of my experiences of being mentally ill and neurodivergent into the experiences of the nuzlock'd. i dont really write this to make any ground breaking messages or anything. its really to just try to see little guys cope in the world where this stuff is different but similar.

the cast
the story starts with focusing on Rea, a 12 year old black girl from the lousy side of Canalave City. after being kicked out of school and isolated in a room with her Pachirisu, Rea was recruited and taken under the wing of Professor Rowan, an eccentric old man that lives on the Sandgem Coast and runs the Sandgem Labortory and a major advocate for those who are Nuzlock'd. from here, Rea goes on to meet Allen, an interesting older boy from Unova who is alot more than he lets on and Barry, a entergetic young man from Hoenn that doesn't let rain ruin his days. Over the course of the series, Rea meets Lyra, daughter of the Johtonian Professor, Lucas, a timid photographer from Galar and Ida, a neurotic boy from Paldea that believes Rea is key to solving the issues of the world.
the story
this story has arcs and i write it episodically. it covers a decent amount of years of the characters and everyone experiences development and change overtime. there is currently nothing to read right now except infodumps lol. i have no decided format either. rn its really just a big animated series in my head that mimics most cartoons i grew up with that eventually get plot heavy as the climax grows near
the lore
ok, so this part is a MAJOR WIP....because i need to coherently wrap around the lore into a way people can read it. i fucking LOVE my lore for Nuzlock'd and is why this shit sticks around tbh (well also because its fun for our headspace to roleplay with this series using our self inserts). but the lore i wrote for this series to tie in the Nuzlocke Curse into natural pokemon is really fun to me, i hope you will think the same.

humans and pokemon are two seperate races. aleph the arceus is the maker of pokemon and risha the ultra necrozma is the mother of the human species. aleph hatched from an egg and began to create pokemon upon a world. with each iteration, these worlds would collapse upon themselves. aleph was frustrated before seeing other worlds flourish around him. the owner of these worlds were risha. risha watched aleph struggle and proposed they work together on a world. with this they created earth. pokemon still struggled to flourish until risha inserted her creation, humans, into the world. aleph wasnt a fan of how humans seemed so much more powerful and neccessary than pokemon since the only way the world was working was thanks to human guidance. even with aleph and risha having the most powerful beings together, he was still unsettled by the power of her creations. risha and aleph parented adaxis (eldest), gildis and laikis (twins), emuris and kurai (twins). he hated how much influence Kurai, risha's son, had over his timid son, Adaxis. during a very layered legendary/demigod war that cannot really be summed up so easyily triggered by the acts of kurai and adaxis, aleph broke risha and ultimately killed her and took over the humans. the death of risha is the reason the curse exists. as the life left risha, so did all of the light of the universe which forced aleph to do rapid damage control and utilize legendaries to fufill her role. all of the demigods were forced to take human form to ensure pokemon were superior. emuris was taken in as aleph's golden child and was a cresslia. gildis and laikis became dialga and palkia and keep the time and space in harmony. kurai and adaxis got banished at the same time and have been suffering since the beginning of the world and the death of their mother; neither really like their forms but adaxis accepts his wretched form and remains giratina during his banishment. aleph walked the earth during the first iterations of the human races to ensure that they were loyal to the pokemon race than their own and to keep the curse from activating within humans.

The Nuzlocke Curse is a phenomenon marked by the presence of death in Pokemon bonded with a trainer with the ability to understand Pokemon speech. Pokemon bonded with trainers with the condition die rather than faint after battle and fail to be aided by human-made medicine. This Curse is seen as a punishment and it is assumed that all individuals with it have committed unforgivable sins which deems them as ill-willed, disgusting beings who do not deserve to form bonds with Pokemon. By those unaffected, it is seen as a contagious disease which has created a hostile society who revere Pokemon as gods that must be protected and anyone who is Nuzlock'd as unworthy. This is however what is taught and encouraged, and not entirely the reality of the phenomenon. The state of having the Nuzlocke Curse it to be Nuzlock'd.
The Curse has the main symptoms listedEveryone is technically Nuzlock'd, but the society does not want people to know that. The curse activated through acceptance of the love of one who is already affected by the phenomenon. Through being lovers or feeling genuine affection/attachment/admiration towards and for a person in a reciprocal manner. It’s often thought to be activated through sexual activity (which encourages the misinformation that it functions as a STD) with a Nuzlock'd individual but that is false. The reason that happens it's common after sexual activity is usually being with two people who accept one another as they are. Basically if you’re willing to love someone who is Nuzlock'd, there’s a high chance of you exhibiting symptoms of it afterwards. It’s believed that it’s Aleph's way of punishing you for allowing a person who clashes against their world’s foundation into your life. In actual terms, it activates because the barrier/chain Aleph set up within the human races is broken when you have intimate contact with someone else who’s barrier/chain broke.
