Al is basically Barry's big brother. They relate in a ton of ways, from their shitty parents to smoking habits to favorite games. Al has been as Barry's side through the worst of his days, giving him advice and helping him keep his head screwed on.

Barry has always felt conflicted about Lucas. He thinks Lucas is pretty annoying and overdramatic and loud. He's fun to play basketball with but past that, Barry rather not hang out with him - he'll do it because he's Al's husband. They fight way too often and Lucas always thinks he knows everything and he can't take a joke without crying and cutting himself over it later.
